Come When Called - Video
Call name once,
When your pup starts coming towards you,  CLICK, get HAPPY and animated
Give treats close to your body to teach them to come into you.
After a few times you start adding the cue “come”.
Those are the basics.   When you first begin practicing you want to do it in a low-distraction area, such as inside your house.  Then begin to add distractions like someone walking around, or a toy in their path.   Then practice it outside.
Fun ways to practice:
--Hide N Seek – Hide in another room with treats, call your pup, then YAY, reward him for finding you.  Make it easy at first, and NEVER jump out at or say “Boo” when you’re playing this.  You can play this outside in your yard by hiding behind a tree.
--Round Robin -  Fun game to play at home!  Each member has treats, and takes turns calling your pup’s name – once – as soon as your pup comes, click then treat. YAY!   Then it’s the next persons turn.
--Out-N-Back Again - Using a  a 15’, 20’, or 30’ foot cloth lead - you can purchase from one of the pet supply stores - take your pup to a park (NOT a dog park) and let the lead out some but not to the end of the lead.  Once they are away from you, Call name, click when they come towards you, reward close to your body, and then, WooHoo! Let them go back out again and do some more exploring.

Even if your dog takes 'forever' to get back to you, be HAPPY! and reward. Their path back to you should begin getting straighter and faster.  If they come to you and you’ve got a scowl on your face, they may not want to come back to you at all.

And please don’t use “Come” when you are going to do something that they don’t like.  For instance, put them in their crate and leave, or trim their nails, or anything negative.  Those exercises should have their own cues..   If you do have to do something negative like a nail trim, be sure to reward, reward, reward.

And because you can never have too many ways to call your dogs.... Here's another FUN way to have your dog come to you when in a distracting environment, or if they like to grab things and run, or stay away in worry you'll ruin their fun.
